Rosacea Skin Disorder Types

Rosacea is a very devastating skin ailment which mostly targets middle-age people above 30 years. As per statistics, rosacea skin disorder has been found to be more prevalent among white skinned females. Yet some opine that it has some kind of link with racial origin since the occurrence of rosacea has been noticed to be more common among people with Celtic origin. This is the reason why rosacea is often called as “Celtic curse.” The symptoms of rosacea have a great resemblance to those of acne. And for this reason this ailment is often mistaken as acne while the origin, nature, and medication of these two skin disorders completely differ from one another. The basic symptom of rosacea is marked by sudden and excessive flushing and blushing of the facial region. In addition to this there might be onset of pimples, nodules, and pustules which are often found to be inflamed, solid, or pus-filled.

Facial region becomes the most favorable attack zone for acne rosacea skin disorder. Another typical sign which is closely related with the flushing of the face is the dilation of the blood vessels which in extreme cases might even rupture. Due to this unnatural dilation, the blood vessels which are often visible from the skin surface look much like a network of thin red lines. This condition is known as telangiectasia. A deformed nose which is also known as rhynophyma, is yet another peculiar indication of rosacea. In rhynophyma, there is some fluid collection observed in the skin tissue of the nasal area which plays as the main reason behind the disfigurement of the nose. But it happens in severely outgrown condition of this disease if left untreated for a longer duration. Rosacea is also heard to attack the eyes by inducing profound dry eye symptoms, sandy and itchy feelings, watering, and swollen eyelids.

Unfortunately like its causes, any definite cure for this skin ailment is also obscure till date. Nevertheless, quite a number of medicinal treatment procedures and preventive measures have shown remarkable outcome in combating the disease with significance. A rosacea patient should never be exposed to excessive heat nor remain too long in the sun. This would eliminate the chances of being affected by heat-induced or photoaggravated flushing of the skin. If possible a cold compress would prove to be a very effective way to alleviate the redness generated by the dilated blood vessels, and in doing so it would also restore the expanded blood vessels to a considerable amount. A rosacea patient is always advised to visit an experienced dermatologist as soon as the onset of the disease is noticed. Dermatologists often suggest antibiotics like clindamycin, metronidazole, or erythromycin. Doxycycline is also used frequently as a popular medication for rosacea skin disorder. Dermabrasion, electrosurgery, and CO2 laser are a few names of the available surgical procedures for fixing rhynophyma or nasal deformation. In order to reduce the ocular problems, patients are usually advised to clean their eyelids with dilute baby shampoo and other over-the-counter eyelid cleansing products.

How Healthy Food Can Effect our Skin

We all want to be healthy, wealthy and beautiful. But when it comes to talking about beauty, some people know a lot about skin care, while others haven’t a clue what our skin is designed for.

 When we reach the age that we begin to see fine lines and wrinkles, we start to look for solutions. I may not be a doctor, but I studied anatomy and physiology while at university and I know that our skin deserves all the nutrition we can give it. If anything, we have to feed our skin natural, healthy, raw food instead of processed food if we expect it to stand up to wind and sun. 

 The skin normally renews its cells every 28 days.  We can talk all day long about lotions and creams, but applying a cream with nutrients to the surface of our skin does not ensure that those nutrients actually penetrate into our skin cells.

I want to share a personal story with you. A couple of years ago my 30-year-old son fell ill and I was shocked by the doctors’ diagnoses. One said that his intestines were abnormally long and the other said he had warm tape!  I couldn’t believe it.

 Neither could my son. Rejecting what the doctors had said,  he decided to clean his body. At first, he visited doctors who specialized in natural medicine. They put him on a diet, but all that did was cause him to lose a lot of weight. He then turned to reading about alternative medicine, followed their recipes and instructions, and cleaned his liver. As a result,  he was able to get rid of 30 stones from his liver.

 When I visited my son in Europe recently, I was amazed at how he looked so radiant and healthy, his skin practically glowing. He told me that he ate five times a day, eating nothing but natural, balanced food and forgoing anything that had added salt or sugar, as well as no smoked foods or white bread, and drank fresh juice every day.

 His story typifies how a clean body and good nutrients can affect our skin. By ensuring that our body has the nutrients it needs, and by including a few key herbs, oils and other remedies in our regular routine, we can not only quickly improve the quality of our skin, but we can also look good as well as feel young and healthy. Essential fatty acids are vital to our skin. Good-quality oils help to keep skin lubricated and healthy overall, since what happens inside your body determines the quality of your skin. 

 While the main goal is to detoxify our bodies for our own good health and a healthy skin, it is also important to create good eating habits for our children. We need to teach our kids to eat those foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and plums. A wide variety of different foods is always recommended for a healthy balanced diet so that the body receives the vast complement of nutrients it needs for good health. Replace processed foods with fresh ones, don’t eat junk food, don’t drink soft drinks, stay away from sugar, and you’ll be well on your way looking younger.

Eczema is a very common annoying skin condition. It is very difficult to treat and the chance of recurrence is extremetly high. Very often, eczema is accompanied by dry skin.

If you have eczema and dry skin from young, like me, then you will know that topical treatments suggested by your western doctor are not going to solve the problem. These topical treatments more often than not, help to relieve the itchy symptoms during the period of application. But, the itchiness returns after a while, costing you more money, time, and heartache. The difficulty in treating eczema lie in the difficulty in finding out the cause of eczema and dry skin in the first place. But there are things you can do to make the recurrence of flare-ups of these skin conditions few and far between.

One highly recommended way is to detox your body. Do you need to detox? Well, skin flare-ups are indications of toxins. Hence, if your body has a reaction, then you should examine what you put into your body. Ask yourself a few questions about your lifestyle and recent events in your life. If you are interested in a more natural approach to colds and flu and in taking better care of your whole self you should know:

Over the counter drugs that are designed to eliminate the symptoms of the cold – ease congestion, stop the cough, soothe the sore throat – actually interfere with the body’s protective immune responses. The condition may seem to get better because of the masking of the symptoms, but actually all that has happened is that the body’s natural immune response has been curtailed. Over the counter cold remedies do nothing to fight cold viruses or boost the immune responses so they can have little effect on the duration of colds.

Of the five antihistamines commonly used to treat colds, research shows that only one of them may actually help dry a runny nose.

Researchers have found that over the counter drugs may have no benefit for preschoolers.

Decongestants can produce side effects like jitters and insomnia.

Mucus, tears, and saliva are all saturated with IgA antibodies. Mucus is a genetically engineered antibiotic substance that contains specific antibodies to your current infection. Thus when you take an over the counter decongestant that dries mucus secretions during a cold or flu you may be reducing your immune responses and contributing to lengthening the duration of your infection. It’s better to take substances that thin and liquefy the mucus and keep it flowing freely with plenty of liquids.

Herbs like licorice may deal with excess mucus through a moistening action, loosening mucus and making it flow more readily out of the body. Marshmallow and slippery elm are two other herbs that may help to do this.

Echinacea and Goldenseal are probably the most frequently recommended herbs for colds and flu in the United States:

Clinically Echinacea is not generally considered to be a major herb for working with the flu although it is often used as an auxiliary herb. Research suggest that Echinacea may be particularly helpful at the onset of a cold or flu. If taken early enough in the appropriate dosages it may contribute to heading off a cold or flu.

Once the cold is well established, though, Echinacea by itself is not the most effective herbal approach. After the cold or flu has taken hold Echinacea continues to be useful in combination with other herbs and it helps shorten the duration and severity of the infection. By itself Echinacea does not usually knock out a cold or flu.

Taking Goldenseal in the early stages of a cold or flu may actually make the condition worse by drying up the mucus membranes. This inhibits the mucus, saturated with antibodies to fight the bacteria, virus or other microbes, from working.

Clinically Goldenseal is used for subacute and chronic infections of the mucus membranes but it is not usually thought to be appropriate for use in the acute stage.

Goldenseal works as a cleanser and anti-inflammatory. It can be helpful at very specific times in very specific doses in a cold. But there is not a single study that shows that Goldenseal works as a cold fighter.

Even better cold & flu herbs:

Black elder is another traditional herbal remedy that has been shown that it may have good effects on the flu. A recent clinical trail showed that a preparation of black elder ended cases of the flu within three days and also boosted the immune system responses. Oregon grape can be used as a contemporary substitute for Goldenseal and may be much better than even Echinacea for use with the common cold.

Peppermint contains compounds that can relax the airways and open congested sinuses and nasal passages.

Ginger appears to fight inflammation and pain. It also appears to acts as an expectorant and have warming effects that can be helpful if you are chilled.

Yarrow fights inflammation and muscle spasm and promotes sweating. It has long been used against colds and flu.

Thyme is an expectorant and appears to fight microbes. Its flavonoids may help decrease smooth muscle spasm which may assists in opening tight airways.

Mullen is a demulcent which contains mucilagous substances that coat and soothe irritated respiratory linings. It may help to loosen a cough and fight viruses.

More natural herbal remedies:

St. John’s Wort has been shown in test tubes studies to inhibit influenza A viruses and parainfluenza virus but not rhinovirus (a cold virus). Osha has traditionally been used in the Rocky Mountains as the most important plant for treating respiratory infections. Osha is used extensively to treat colds, flu, and bronchial infections. The tincture or tea is antibacterial.

Boneset is used as a traditional remedy for the flu. Traditionally, Boneset was used as a major remedy for the flu, fevers, and as a general tonic. It has been used to treat both acute and chronic conditions. In one study the immune stimulating polysaccharides in Boneset were found to be ten times more potent than Echinacea polysaccharides.

An herbal bath may be an effective remedy for easing cold symptoms and increasing immune responses. It may help to nip them in the bud. During the bath the essential oils of the herbs are released by the hot water. These oils are believed to be absorbed through the pores of the skin and through the nose and mouth mucus membranes. Absorption through the mucus membranes may bring the oils into contact with the upper respiratory tract where they are able to exert their antibacterial effects.
